Yu Sang grimaced to one side and said, “It’s hard to say whether Dr. Shen can do it or not, but anyway, according to Brother Xu’s character, he probably had the report ready last night, right?”
Zhang Cheng, who had been close to Shen Fangyu since he was a student, said irritably, “Just because it’s done early doesn’t mean it’s done well.
“If you say it’s good, is it good?” Yu Sang confronted him, saying, “I think Brother Jiang will do a better job.”
“That’s because you have a problem with your vision.” Zhang Cheng was about to add more fuel to the fire, but Shen Fangyu gave him a look that Zhang Cheng didn’t get. He rolled up his sleeve and was about to fight Yu Sang, and the latter also warmed up.
Jiang Xu directly lifted his hand and dragged him back to his seat, while Shen Fangyu stood up and stopped the hot-headed Zhang Cheng, then walked straight to Jiang Xu’s side.
“What are you doing? Want to fight?” Yu Sang saw Shen Fangyu staring at the small steamed bun in his hand and hurriedly shielded Jiang Xu, who did not need his protection.
“Follow me, I want to talk to you.” Shen Fangyu said.
Jiang Xu glanced at him indifferently and pushed Yu Sang, who was standing in front of him, away. They walked out of the office together, and Yu Sang was shouting behind him, “Go for it, Brother Xu! Beat him up!”
“Can you think of your image as a doctor? Don’t tarnish our reputations as doctors,” Zhang Cheng glared at him, then turned his head to shout at the door, “Brother Shen, you’re not a man if you can’t beat Jiang Xu.”
Jiang Xu, Shen Fangyu: “……”
After closing the door behind him, Shen Fangyu asked, “Why didn’t you eat breakfast?”
“I’ve already eaten.”
Shen Fangyu didn’t believe him, “I can’t do anything about it if we were elsewhere, but now we’re at the hospital. Let’s find Xiao Ting to take your blood sugar, I won’t say anything more if you really ate.”
“No.”
“Do you want to go or not?”
“No.”
“Your stomach problem is caused by you not eating breakfast, don’t let your body suffer if you’re angry with me.”
Shen Fangyu grabbed Jiang Xu’s wrist, and Jiang Xu tried yanking his hand back, his thin lenses reflecting a harsh light. “What do you care?”
“I’m responsible for you; what’s wrong?”
“Mind your own business.”
Jiang Xu now suspects that the Shen Fangyu of last night was a fake, either because of that or because Tang Ke’s retelling was faulty. He wondered how much oil had been added and how much vinegar had been spiked.
He knew that Shen Fangyu would always look like this when looking for a fight, but there was no way he would ever give in to him.
“Dr. Shen, just prepare your report.” He said, “I don’t need you to worry about what I eat or do.”
As the hour hand stepped closer to the number eight and the students waiting to do ward rounds started approaching the corridor in front of the office one by one, Jiang Xu glared at Shen Fangyu, shook off his hand, and turned around to walk back to the office.
Yu Sang immediately grabbed his wrist and asked, “Who won the argument?”
Jiang Xu picked up his folder and pen and walked out without looking back. Yu Sang followed in confusion, while Zhang Cheng gloated at the side, “That must be…”
As he was speaking, a pen was suddenly jerked away from his chest pocket. “Shen Fangyu!” He stared at the culprit’s back indignantly and said, “You’re still grabbing my pen after winning the fight?”
Shen Fangyu turned his back on him and waved his hand. “I lost the fight.”
Zhang Cheng covered his chest pocket and appeased the only pen left, looking even more aggrieved at his words, “Even if you lost the fight, why don’t you grab Jiang Xu’s pen? What’s the point of grabbing mine?”
Once again, the two deputy chief physicians were separated by the corridor, passing by without looking at each other.
When he returned from the ward rounds, Jiang Xu was about to pack his things to go to the operating room when Shen Fangyu stopped him again, and when he raised his eyes with a frown, a bottle of glucose was shoved into his hand.
“You’re not going into the operating room today unless you drink it.”
“Are you a scoundrel, Shen Fangyu?” Jiang Xu asked.
Shen Fangyu didn’t answer him, but he didn’t let move either, blocking him at the door like a smiling tiger.
Jiang Xu didn’t bother to argue with him, he quickly unscrewed the bottle cap and finished the glucose in a few gulps, his gaze falling on Shen Fangyu’s face through the lenses. For a moment, Shen Fangyu suddenly remembered the night they drank at the Hell Bar.
Jiang Xu had looked at him the same way that day, only the light was dim and he didn’t see the small mole under his eye.
Something fell in his palm, and Shen Fangyu snapped back to attention as Jiang Xu shoved the empty glass bottle into his hand and asked, “Can you get lost?”
He gave way, and Jiang Xu walked right past. The moment he brushed past him, Shen Fangyu suddenly called out to him, “Jiang Xu.”
Jiang Xu turned around impatiently, and Shen Fangyu stuffed something into his coat pocket while looking to the side. Immediately after, he left with his hands in his pockets, as if he had done it casually. Jiang Xu took the thing out of his pocket and froze.
It was a handwritten letter …… or rather, a review letter.
“Hahaha,” Tang Ke held Shen Fangyu’s letter and laughed so hard he couldn’t catch his breath. “What kind of virtue do I have to see Shen Fangyu’s review letter in my lifetime!”
He picked up the paper with a flourish:
“Review: I, Shen Fangyu, made a drunken remark last night that made Jiang Xu angry, and I hereby make this review to…”
Tang Ke had just read the first line when the thick stack of paper was snatched up by Jiang Xu. The red and white paper bore the letterhead of A Medical University’s Jihua Hospital. Shen Fangyu had written neatly, and the five pages didn’t have any doctor’s scribbles at all. He had even attached a surgery plan at the end.
“Jiang Xu,” Tang Ke said, “take a picture of this letter and send it to your moments. You two have been in a dispute for years, so you can be regarded as the winner,” he said with shock and amusement, “I doubt Shen Fangyu has ever written a review in his life.”
“Is there an envelope?”
“Yes, yes, yes.” Tang Ke brought him the envelope, and Jiang Xu neatly folded the five pages, stuffed the envelope back into his briefcase, then took out the attached surgery plan.
Before their fight last night, Shen Fangyu had originally said that he would make the surgery plan that night and discuss it with him. Shen Fangyu had given him both the review and the surgery plan this morning. Jusng Xu reckoned that he didn’t sleep much last night.
But why?
“Heh, let me tell you,” Tang Ke flicked the surgery plan: “Shen Fangyu has written you a review, so forgive him, it’s just a few words of anger. Take advantage of his step back; you still need him to operate on you.”
Jiang Xu lowered his eyes.
“What’s with that reaction?” Tang Ke froze, “Jiang Xu, you wouldn’t… have changed your mind, would you?”
He knew Jiang Xu’s character, if Jiang Xu didn’t want the baby, he would have rushed to talk about the surgery plan with Shen Fangyu yesterday. He recalled his attitude when he spoke to Jiang Xu on the phone last night. He had thought that Jiang Xu wasn’t that excited because he was a cold person, or that he was too shocked and happy for a moment, so he didn’t react accordingly.
Now it seems ……
“It’s only been a month or so, Jiang Xu.” Tang Ke still remembered how Jiang Xu, who had just found out he was pregnant over a month ago, was so anxious that he asked him about the magazine’s progress over and over again.
“What do you mean now? You want to give birth to the baby?” Tang Ke said, “Do you know what that means?”
Jiang Xu paused and said, “I know.”
Tang Ke looked at him with concern and asked, “What happened? You’ve always done things resolutely; you shouldn’t have such an indecisive character.”
“Give me some time, Tang Ke” he rubbed his brow, “I just need to organize my thoughts.”
Tang Ke should know that pregnancy causes some emotional roller coaster rides. Why do you think Jiang Xu was so angry with Shen??
It’s called “a cluster of cells” when you don’t want it, and it’s called “a baby” when you do want it. I guess the humanity of the foetus is dependent on whether or not the person carrying it wants it or not?
It’s interesting to see Jiang Xu grapple with this now.
It was a cluster of cells before because it wasn’t developed but that dr. kenn didn’t give them any information on how to perform the complicated surgery of abortion so they decided to wait but now the body is developed, the hands the organs and everything is developed because time won’t wait for dr. kenn’s report it’s not a matter of convenience it’s matter of science he couldn’t simply stop the cell development process
And yes its life and death depends absolutely on the person carrying it,
Tangke. SHUT UP.
He was fine with the abortion before because he was carrying a fetus that he had no emotional attachment to. But then he and Shen Fangyu started talking about names, which changed the fetus into a baby in his mind and now he’s attached to her.
For f-sake, stop pushing the guy. I know the time window is closing soon for the abortion, but it’s not a decision made lightly. Especially since they’d already started picking out names and such. Even if the friend doesn’t know that, it’s still a tough decision and the friend needs to back off if he notices that something has changed about how Jiang Xu feels.
