The Only Normal Human In The Universe Chapter 20

An Yan didn’t understand what the steward meant. Instead, he said, with a little surprise, “Didn’t I come here to help pick the fruit?”

The steward was amused by An Yan’s dumbfounded expression and said, “If you want to pick the fruit yourself, of course it’s fine. I’ll go and find a box for you. “

“Then I’ll trouble you.” An Yan expressed heartfelt gratitude.

After a while, the steward came over with a small box that could be carried. An Yan took the box and began to pick the fruit in earnest.

As a hamster who had cultivated for thousands of years, he had eaten a lot of fruits and was naturally very good at picking them.

He could definitely find the sweetest fruit from a tree at a glance. So, in a short while, he had picked about ten big and red apples from the surrounding apple trees and filled the bottom of the box.

Talking about the fruit box, it was quite funny.

They were probably worried that the fruit would be damaged if they were crammed together, so in addition to being divided into four layers, each layer was also divided into smaller spaces. The spaces were filled with shock-proof material, so that wherever the fruit was transported, the quality would not be affected by collisions on the way. After filling the bottom layer,

An Yan carried the box to the pear orchard and carefully filled the top layer with pears that were extraordinarily moist at first glance.

Next came peaches, plums, grapes and other fruits. By the time An Yan returned from his rounds, the box he was carrying was already filled to the brim.

During the process, An Yan naturally drooled a few more times, but he held back. This was, after all, someone else’s fruit, and he could never steal it.

If other people knew what An Yan was thinking and doing, they would definitely laugh at him for not knowing how to seize the opportunity. But for An Yan, this was a rule he had to follow.

Although An Yan had already picked a box full of fruit, the other workers had not yet finished picking the fruit, so An Yan had to wait first.

As he waited, An Yan couldn’t help but carry the box to an apple tree, staring greedily at the red apples on the tree. As he watched, he couldn’t resist and plucked another big, red apple.

An Yan: “……” Sorry, I really didn’t mean to pick you off just now.

The box was already full and An Yan could only hold it in his hand. He then resisted the temptation of the apple while cursing his own lack of firm consciousness.

Just as An Yan was staring at the apple in his hand, a slightly cool voice suddenly came from behind him, saying, “What are you looking at?”

An Yan was startled by the voice and turned around in a hurry, subconsciously hiding the apple behind him.

Cheng Yi just wanted to take a walk before the party started, but he had not expected to see a young boy staring at an apple in his orchard.

The point is that this youngster was clearly craving the apple, but he was not eating the apple in his hand. It made Cheng Yi feel a bit amused, so he deliberately spoke up.

Then an even more interesting scene happened. The youngster was surprised and hurriedly hid the apple behind his back.

Why did he hide the apple when he clearly had no intention of stealing it? Was this little guy too scared?

An Yan was indeed startled and a little nervous.

Although An Yan had checked Cheng Yi’s profile before, he had not looked at his picture carefully. He saw Cheng Yi wearing an expensive black outfit, so he thought that the other party was a VIP invited by the Cheng family.

He thought of Steward Liu’s previous explanation and hurriedly stood upright, speaking in a formal manner, “Hello, sir, I wasn’t looking at anything just now.”

When Cheng Yi came closer, he noticed that the young man was wearing the uniform clothes of the workers in his family. Just by looking at his actions, he was certainly not a worker for his family. So he should be a temporary employee hired to prepare for this banquet, right?

Cheng Yi quickly judged An Yan’s identity and smiled as he glanced behind him, “Then what is in your hand?”

An Yan was embarrassed, but he didn’t dare to hide the apple. He could only slowly take out the apple behind him: “I didn’t steal the apple, I was just looking.”

His voice was getting lower and lower with each word. Even if he didn’t eat, he was ashamed of the fact that he had just been staring at the apple.

Cheng Yi had been standing not far away for a while, so of course he knew that An Yan had not stolen the apple. But seeing the other party’s embarrassed and apprehensive look, he suddenly wanted to tease him, “Then how can you prove that you did not steal the apple?”

An Yan was dumbfounded. How…was he going to prove this?

Cheng Yi looked at An Yan’s dumbfounded face and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. He had been annoyed by the noise of the guests but was in an inexplicably better mood now. “I’m just kidding with you.”

An Yan then sighed in relief and reached out to pat his chest, “That’s good, otherwise I wouldn’t know how to prove it.”

An Yan was wearing the worker’s uniform assigned by the Cheng family. It was a shirt, western trousers, and a slim vest, which made his already slim figure even slimmer.

He had a defenceless and innocent look on his face, which inexplicably brought out a different flavour in the outfit.

Cheng Yi looked him up and down and coughed lightly, “Are you a part-time worker employed by the family?”

“Yes, I was introduced to the job by the manager of the pharmacy shop where I used to work.” An Yan answered honestly. He was still holding the apple in his hand. The red contrasted with his hands, making his slender and white fingers stand out.

Cheng Yi unconsciously dropped his gaze on the apple: “What’s your name?”

“My name is An Yan.” An Yan was a little embarrassed when he noticed his gaze, but the box was already full.  He could only hold the apple in his hand.

Cheng Yi asked again, “Are you an adult?”

An Yan replied, “I’m eighteen years old. I’m already an adult.”

Cheng Yi felt that this child was so good that he was a bit silly. He didn’t even know who he was, but he answered his questions without evasion. Didn’t he have any precautions?

Although Cheng Yi was really famous in the interstellar world, not everyone knew him or had seen him. Based on An Yan’s reaction when he saw him just now, Cheng Yi could conclude that this person did not know who he was.

With this in mind, Cheng Yi casually asked, “Do you know who I am?”

An Yan froze for a moment and subconsciously asked in return, “Aren’t you a guest invited by the Cheng family?”

Cheng Yi let out a low laugh at this answer. He was about to tease this innocent little fellow again when he saw the orchard steward on the other side directing the orchard workers to come over with boxes of fruit.

Cheng Yi could only say “I’ll remember you” and then left.

“Huh?” An Yan was left standing there in a daze. I’ll remember you? What does this mean? Is this person going to report me to the steward because I hadn’t done a good enough job just now?

Before An Yan could worry more, he was called over by the orchard steward, who began to check the fruits he had just picked against the list one by one.

After checking the information, the orchard steward asked the workers to help him carry the fruits to the back kitchen, while he carried the small box of fruits he had picked earlier.

The steward considered that he was probably just picking for fun, so the box he was given was much smaller than the ones other workers used. However, even though it was only a small box, it couldn’t go to waste.

As soon as An Yan returned to the back kitchen, Steward Liu immediately pointed to the small box he was holding and said, “You take this box of fruit and wash it separately; it’s for your own consumption.”

An Yan didn’t think much about it. He just thought the box he was carrying was left because it was too small and didn’t fit in.

After carefully washing the fruit, An Yan put the washed fruit aside. He was about to go and help elsewhere when he saw Steward Liu approaching and said, “Your name is An Yan, isn’t it?”

“It’s me.” An Yan had registered his personal information before and only thought that Steward Liu had read the information sheet to know his name.

Steward Liu gave An Yan an extra look and nodded, “You don’t need to be busy with anything else, just stay here and watch these fruits.”

“Huh?” An Yan was once again confused. Steward Liu actually asked him to help look after the fruits?

It wasn’t that An Yan didn’t think he could do this well; it was just that the people responsible for looking after things earlier were all workers employed by the Cheng family on a permanent basis.

After all, these part-term workers came from all over. They didn’t know their roots, so who knew if they would do something while watching the food?

The Cheng family’s food was already of the highest quality, and this was a banquet held specifically to celebrate the Second Young Master’s coming of age ceremony. Naturally, the food used was even better, so it was only natural to be more cautious.

It was for this reason that An Yan was so surprised.

But Steward Liu had no intention of explaining. After a few more words of advice, he went off to do other things, so An Yan had no choice but to stay there and look at things carefully.

While An Yan was working hard, many guests had arrived at the banquet hall of the Cheng family.

Among them were the Zhao family, father and daughter, who had just arrived at the banquet hall.

In order to make herself look more dazzling, Zhao Xinxin had asked the stylist to tailor a delicate and noble dress for her. She even changed her hair for this purpose.

As soon as she walked into the ballroom, Zhao Xinxin drew the attention of many people. While enjoying the attention, she secretly scanned around, only to regretfully find that Cheng Yi was not here at all.

It was his brother’s coming of age ceremony and he wasn’t even there to entertain the guests!

Zhao Xinxin was unhappy in her heart but did not dare to show it. She could only follow behind her father and act gentle and generous. Then at the right moment, she gave the gift in her hand and said, “Uncle Cheng, Auntie Lin, this is my gift for Yang Yang. I hope Yang Yang will like it.”

I think it’s better to use the term “coming of age ceremony” instead of Bar Mitzvah since that’s strictly a jewish term and this is a Chinese novel.
