“Laogong ge, I’ll just help you look it over like this, it’s fine.”
Bai Shuijin sat so comfortably, he didn’t look like anything was wrong at all.
‘What kind of tricky little tactic was this now?’
Wang Huanxiu’s eyes flickered, while Bai Shuijin’s gaze followed the half-peeled lychee in his hand.
‘Why is he suddenly silent?’
After getting no response for a long time, Bai Shuijin smacked him like a sea lion slapping its belly. “Laogong ge, hurry up.”
If they kept dawdling, it’d be midnight soon. The later they delayed, the less sleep they’d get.
And Wang Huanxiu was the type to leave for work at eight o’clock sharp without fail.
Watching Bai Shuijin impatiently waiting to review documents, Wang Huanxiu took it all in but said nothing. He opened a drawer, pulled out a stack of documents that were over ten pages thick, and placed them onto the desk.
“Take a look for me.”
Wang Huanxiu leaned back, his broad shoulders and narrow waist reclining into the chair, his gaze tilted downward at Bai Shuijin who was sitting on his lap.
Unlike him, Bai Shuijin didn’t lean back. He bent forward like a curled shrimp, peering at the files on the desk.
Wang Huanxiu’s cold eyes fell on the nape of his neck. A fine silver chain dangled there. His body was too thin, even the knitted sweater looked oversized on him.
As Bai Shuijin got a clearer look at the document, Wang Huanxiu could feel a distinct tremor in the butt sitting on his thighs.
The lake in Wang Huanxiu’s eyes turned unfathomably deep, as if a huge creature was lurking beneath the surface.
The files had just been placed on the desk, and Bai Shuijin was ready to show off a little. After all, he’d recently watched a few workplace dramas. But as soon as he read the title, his whole body froze.
QVgame Project Proposal…
QV was the brand, game meant games, and proposal referred to the plan.
Put all three together…
Bai Shuijin: !
Fuck! Isn’t this the game proposal the original owner in the novel stole?!
He’d already decided not to steal anything, to lie low and take it easy in this world, but now the document just popped up on its own.
In the novel, the original owner’s first theft was this very document. The villain noticed it immediately, after all, it was the only copy and it had vanished without a trace. It would’ve been hard not to notice.
The original owner had made up an excuse about losing something on the third floor, used that to sneak into the study, and secretly took the file.
The villain didn’t even need to investigate. Just asking who had been on the third floor was enough to find out.
But the original owner thought his plan was flawless, that he’d never been caught.
Stealing that file marked the beginning of the original owner’s fate of getting chopped into pieces and fed to sharks. The villain never even took him seriously, much less bothered to retaliate.
But the original owner thought he had not been discovered, so he went on to steal more files again and again, acting more and more brazen, just like an empty bottle that someone kept pouring water into, the water level rose higher and higher again and again and eventually it overflowed, but the person holding the bottle was completely unaware.
And then he was finished.
Bai Shuijin shivered. He couldn’t follow that same path.
But why did Wang Huanxiu give him the file to look at? Had he already started to suspect him?
Was he bringing out the file on purpose to test him?
The next second, cold fingers gripped the back of his neck, squeezing intermittently.
“So? Did you take a good look?”
Wang Huanxiu straightened up and his broad shoulders enveloped Bai Shuijin. “Is there anything you want to say?”
One hand held the half-peeled lychee. The other pinched his neck.
Bai Shuijin’s shadow on the desk was now covered by a larger, darker one.
Maybe the only way to prove his innocence now was to gouge out his own eyes.
Bai Shuijin lowered his head and kept silent.
Wang Huanxiu’s hand still rested on his neck. Even though his left little finger was in a splint, it didn’t stop him from squeezing. “Didn’t you want to offer your opinion? What do you think of the document?”
As he spoke, he started flipping through the pages for him.
Bai Shuijin: “…”
‘This man is bad news.’
But as the pages turned, Bai Shuijin realized he couldn’t understand any of it. Why were there so many strange symbols and codes? Not to mention technical jargon.
Even in the novel, the document’s contents were never described in detail. Right now, the whole thing looked like an ancient scripture to him.
How was he supposed to comment on this? His teacher never covered this!
Bai Shuijin looked up at the man. “Laogong ge, are you sure I can speak freely?”
“Go ahead.”
Bai Shuijin: “Then don’t get angry, okay?”
Wang Huanxiu’s eyes were cold. “I won’t. What do you think of the file?”
Bai Shuijin pointed with his little hand. “Shit.”
“…”
There was silence in the air for a few seconds.
Wang Huanxiu’s brows twitched. “Anything else?”
Bai Shuijin doubled down. “Dogshit.”
“…”
In the novel, after the original owner stole the original proposal, Wang Huanxiu simply discarded it and brought out a new one to compete with the protagonist.
Clearly, there must’ve been flaws in the original plan, otherwise, Wang Huanxiu wouldn’t be wavering about it now.
Or maybe he had already decided against using it, and the file was essentially trash. But throwing it out outright seemed wasteful, so now it was being used for one last purpose.
To test Bai Shuijin.
Looking at the person on his lap bluntly calling his proposal shit, Wang Huanxiu narrowed his eyes in satisfaction. But the moment he caught sight of those bright red lips, this satisfaction was replaced by gloom.
“Did you have fun out today?” You even put on lipstick.
Bai Shuijin thought about it. Actually, he had enjoyed himself, he bought his little house milk and drank it…he nodded. “Yeah.”
“Heh.”
Wang Huanxiu sneered.
Bai Shuijin turned his head to look at him. “Laogong ge, what’s with the weird laugh?”
Wang Huanxiu looked at him coldly. “You misheard.”
“I didn’t.”
Still won’t admit it.
They were sitting close, and Bai Shuijin’s nose was filled with the scent of lychee from Wang Huanxiu’s hand. He swallowed hard, not even daring to imagine how sweet that lychee must be.
“Laogong ge, can I have the lychee in your hand?”
Wang Huanxiu glanced down to see Bai Shuijin staring eagerly at the lychee in his hand, so he simply lifted his hand and handed over the half-peeled fruit.
It was just one lychee.
But Bai Shuijin didn’t take it. He patted him instead. “Laogong ge, help me peel it all the way.”
Wang Huanxiu’s eyes rested on him. Bai Shuijin had shifted slightly, and his profile fell into the man’s gaze. Dressed up like he was today, he looked playful and cute.
Bai Shuijin was younger, exactly six years younger than him, the same age as his own younger siblings.
Six years didn’t sound like much, and the difference wasn’t that big, but when you put it another way, it sounded different.
Bai Shuijin was a college student now, but when Wang Huanxiu had gone abroad for university, Bai Shuijin had only been in sixth grade.
“Laogong ge.”
He urged again.
‘So clingy.’ Wang Huanxiu frowned. With a few efficient movements of his long fingers, he peeled the lychee completely, revealing the glossy white flesh.
As soon as he finished, Bai Shuijin leaned in like a little bird to bite the fruit from his fingers. Wang Huanxiu also didn’t dodge, holding the lychee delicately between two fingers.
It’s already been peeled, and you still want him to feed it to the person?
If Bai Shuijin didn’t lower his head to eat, he wasn’t going to feed it to him.
Bai Shuijin took the whole lychee into his mouth in one bite. As he pulled back, his lips brushed lightly against Wang Huanxiu’s fingertips, making a subtle sound.
“Laogong ge, it’s really sweet.”
Wang Huanxiu wordlessly grabbed a tissue from the desk and wiped his fingers. “If you’ve finished eating, go.”
“Laogong ge.”
Laogong ge, laogong ge…he never stopped calling him that since he got home. Bai Shuijin’s mouth was like a broken record, constantly repeating it.
Wang Huanxiu replied perfunctorily, “What is it?”
“Let’s go together, it’s late. Time to sleep.”
Wang Huanxiu glanced at the time. It was indeed time to rest.
Bai Shuijin felt the thigh under his butt shift. The man motioned for him to get off, so he stood up.
He’d been sitting too long so he first stretched his arms. The sleeves of his loose knit sweater slid down to his upper arms, revealing his fair skin.
The documents still lay spread out on the desk. Bai Shuijin didn’t even glance back at them as he followed Wang Huanxiu out of the study.
As he opened the bedroom door, Wang Huanxiu noticed Bai Shuijin still following behind him.
Once the door was open, Bai Shuijin made a move to slip right in.
Wang Huanxiu hooked a finger through the back of his collar.
“What are you doing?”
Bai Shuijin froze, then remembered his room was on the second floor…but he had no intention of going back.
“Laogong ge, I’ll sleep here tonight.”
“You’ve got some nerve.”
Bai Shuijin’s eyes sparkled. “Well, I’m already here.”
After washing up in the large bathroom that echoed, Bai Shuijin rolled into bed like a tumble-dryer.
There was no other way, that’s just how this bed had to be climbed onto.
Wang Huanxiu finished showering but seemed to have forgotten his clothes. He came out of the bathroom wearing only a towel wrapped around his waist.
Seeing the broad chest, the beautiful and neat abdominal lines, and faint mermaid lines on his sides, Bai Shuijin instantly snapped awake and sprang up from the bed.
This waist looked strong.
In his previous life, his favorite hobby had been watching male college students play basketball. It was his way of relaxing.
He’d never been in a relationship, but he’d definitely watched the “pigs run”.
Wang Huanxiu noticed the movement over there and saw Bai Shuijin sit up on the bed, staring at him with wide eyes.
The long, narrow eyes shifted. “What are you looking at?”
Bai Shuijin gasped, “It looks good! I love it!”
“…”
Wang Huanxiu changed into his pajamas and lay down on the bed.
Bai Shuijin scrolled on his phone beside him, waiting for sleepiness to come. A bedside lamp cast a warm glow across the room.
His fluffy head was buried in the pillow, and he suddenly burst out laughing while watching a video.
It was a video of a male college student yelling at the dormitory building opposite, “Would the guest whose heart is moved by me, please turn on your light!”….and then every light went off.
**A side note, guests on dating shows usually say that when it’s time to pick a date.
Bai Shuijin turned his phone toward Wang Huanxiu, wanting to share the joy. “Laogong ge, look, it’s hilarious.”
Wang Huanxiu glanced at it, uninterested.
Bai Shuijin mimicked the video under his breath, “Would the guest whose heart is moved by me, please turn on your light.”
This time, a deep, magnetic voice replied, “What did you say?”
Bai Shuijin turned to him, his eyes crinkling with laughter. “Would the guest whose heart is moved by me, please turn on your light?”
Click!…the bedside lamp went off.
Bai Shuijin: “…”
‘You bad man!’
Downstairs, the ever-ready butler was so sleepy that he could hardly open his eyes, but he still persisted.
A servant beside him advised, “Uncle Zhang, maybe you should rest tonight.”
“No way. Sir is definitely going to kick Young Master Bai out tonight. As soon as he throws him out, I’ll go clean up his things on the second floor.”
‘Kick him out completely!’
The servant gave him a look. Old men are stubborn.
Still, tonight didn’t look good for Young Master Bai. Getting kicked out seemed almost certain.
The servant blinked up toward the third floor.
When is Sir going to kick him out?
