When Bai Lixin came out with the little merman tied into a twist, the little merman was still struggling.
Seeing this, Xia Chi was stunned, “Why is he tied up, Brother?”
Bai Lixin kept it short, “I killed his partner, he sought revenge, so I had to tie him up.”
The little merman’s mouth was gagged with a cloth, and his body wriggled like a carp in turmoil.
To prevent the little merman from causing trouble, Bai Lixin simply struck the little merman on the back of the neck. The little merman instantly rolled his eyes and fainted.
Bai Lixin effortlessly lifted the little merman onto his shoulder. “Let’s go to the secret laboratory.”
Xia Chi subconsciously touched his neck, “Oh, okay.”
‘The way Brother knocked out the merman was incredibly efficient.’
Bai Lixin went to Dr. Olay’s office and successfully found the access card, and then came to the hidden wall in a familiar way.
He swiped the card to open the door, and went in. Everything was done in one go.
However, behind the secret door was somewhat different from the last time.
Shattered glass shards covered the floor, and the pungent smell of formalin filled the air. Specimens that were once neatly arranged were now scattered all over the ground.
Xia Chi walked in unprepared and immediately saw severed limbs and internal organs strewn across the floor.
His breath tightened for a moment, and his heartbeat skipped a beat.
But Xia Chi was a person who had seen the world after all, so he was merely startled for a second. He didn’t scream, or hinder Bai Lixin.
After calming his somewhat queasy stomach, he bravely took a few steps forward.
“Plop.”
There was a sudden sound under his feet, and at the same time, Xia Chi felt that he had stepped on something strange.
His steps suddenly stopped, and Xia Chi slowly lowered his head, examining his foot.
On the white porcelain tiles, an exploded eyeball lay there, pale green slime connecting the moist eyeball to Xia Chi’s shoe.
Xia Chi instantly covered his mouth.
‘Ahhh!
So disgusting!
Gross!
Bleurgh!’
Bai Lixin, who was carrying the little merman, silently surveyed the surroundings, his cold eyes thoughtful.
Someone patted him on the back and he turned to see Xia Chi, whose face had turned green, slowly approaching, one foot still grinding against the ground. “Brother, was it like this when you came last time?”
Bai Lixin shook his head, “No, it was fine last time. Something must have happened inside.”
Xia Chi: “What happened? Could it be like in TV dramas, the rich people found out, so they cleaned up the lab?”
Bai Lixin shook his head again, “Probably not. If they were really cleaning up, they would clear the laboratory above-ground. I guess it’s the merfolk’s curse that went wild, causing the acceleration of these people’s curses and leading to mutations. But this is just my speculation, we’ll find out once we go inside.”
The corridor was spacious, and walking side by side wasn’t crowded. Xia Chi followed Bai Lixin step by step. The overhead lights were flickering, and occasional bulb fragments would fall to the ground.
As they approached, the previously clean walls gradually showed a mixture of red and black.
Red should be blood. Xia Chi could even smell a faint bloody odor.
As for the black, it should be the pus produced by the curse, and it had an incredibly foul smell.
After walking for a while, the two stopped at the same time.
Before them was a tightly shut glass door. Behind the glass, a black tentacle-like entity moved and slid away.
Wherever the eerie tentacle passed, it left behind a trail of grayish slime.
Due to the slime on the glass, the view was partially obstructed, but Xia Chi could vaguely see a huge creature moving behind the glass door.
The creature was neither human nor ghost, a grotesque amalgamation.
Numerous heads were connected by black slime, twisting and struggling, emitting pained moans.
Xia Chi vaguely saw the faces of Dr. Olay and Dr. Camila, as well as some faces he had never seen before.
Bai Lixin and Xia Chi exchanged a glance and walked to the glass door.
The monitoring room for the merfolk’s bracelets was behind this room; to enter, they needed to pass through here.
Seeing the monstrous entity inside, Bai Lixin knew that remaining invisible was unnecessary.
He lifted the invisibility buff and took out his trident.
This could be described as a monster or a collective of numerous mutated monsters.
Upon seeing the two people who suddenly appeared at the door, the aimless monster in the room roared in anger and charged toward the glass door with its cumbersome body.
Bai Lixin quickly kicked the glass door open, tossed the little merman to Xia Chi, then swiftly charged toward the monster like a meteor.
The trident stabbed the monster, and Bai Lixin moved gracefully and slashed along the wound. One of the monster’s heads was cut off and it flew to the wall with slime attached.
Bai Lixin then displayed moves so fast that only the afterimage could be seen.
Xia Chi held the little merman, and quietly stood by the door, unable to assist.
He nervously looked inside the room, and saw Bai Lixin’s body bending into beautiful curves. His moves were strong yet graceful, and in an instant, the room was filled with chunks of black monster remains.
It wasn’t until the last piece was split that Bai Lixin stopped and stepped back to join Xia Chi.
With a crisp sound, the trident was firmly planted on the ground.
There were no unnecessary moves, it was simply a textbook-level combat scene by a god.
“Clap clap clap clap!” Xia Chi couldn’t help but applaud, and rainbow farts filled the air. “Brother, you’re amazing! You resolved it so quickly.”
However, Bai Lixin’s expression didn’t relax. He silently watched the monster in front of him. The scattered heads on the ground suddenly widened their eyes and opened their mouths simultaneously, emitting a series of unsettling, piercing screeches.
The sound was like locusts flapping their wings during a locust plague, unsettling and disturbing.
With the screams of the heads, the dismembered parts on the ground slowly started to converge toward the center. In an instant, the monster reappeared intact in front of Bai Lixin and Xia Chi.
They roared individually, and each head seemed to possess its own intelligence.
Xia Chi and Bai Lixin even heard the enraged shouts of Dr. Olay and Dr. Camila.
Dr. Olay: “Bai Lixin?! How can you be so powerful? What are you?!”
“Did we suddenly become like this because of you?!”
Dr. Camila: “Ah, I recognize the weapon in his hand! It’s that weapon that destroyed all our detectors!”
“He’s the monster from the sea! He’s that monster!”
The young man tilted his head and sneered. “I’m a monster? Haven’t you looked in the mirror? Compared to me, don’t you look more like monsters? Ugly and hideous monsters, I’m talking about you, okay?”
“Monsters? Are we monsters?” Bai Lixin’s words instantly stirred the heads on the slime. They let out shrill roars, each head saying something different.
“No, no, we’re not monsters!”
“We’re scientists, we are pioneers advancing for human progress. We are heroes, how can we be monsters!”
“We are cursed for the advancement of human civilization! We sacrifice for the entire human race! Though ugly, we are not monsters!”
“We should be praised by all of humanity, not defined as monsters!”
“Yeah, how would an ignorant low-level person like you understand our lofty ambitions!”
“Do you know how crucial our research is? Once we unravel the merfolk’s curse, we can completely resolve the rejection issue with merfolk blood! Many human diseases can find relief through merfolk blood! Once our research succeeds, humanity will be grateful to us!”
“We’ll be recorded in the annals of human history!!! We will become heroes for all humanity!!!”
“Exactly, we are heroes! Great individuals, not monsters! How can ants like you judge us?”
Xia Chi couldn’t stand it anymore. Before Bai Lixin could speak, Xia Chi cursed angrily, “Fuck your stinky farts! Building one race’s happiness on the pain, death, or even extinction of another, what greatness is there? On one hand, you claim merfolk have common ancestors with humans, and on the other, you capture the same intelligent life with the same ancestors without basic reverence for life. And you still want to be considered great?”
“So what?!” Dr. Camila roared, “They should feel honored to have become the cornerstone of the progress of human civilization! Sacrificing a few dozen or a hundred merfolk can bring happiness to all of humanity. With this minor cost, you get the maximum return. Only a wise person would make this choice!”
“They are not sacrificed in vain. We don’t want them to die either, and we regret it. But how can human progress proceed without sacrifice?”
Xia Chi retorted angrily, “What if it were you being captured as test subjects? Could you speak these words so calmly then?”
“Of course! So what if we capture them? Humans are the pinnacle of all beings! This planet operates on the law of the jungle, whoever has the stronger fist has the right to speak! Since we captured them, we have the right to control them!”
Xia Chi clenched his fists in anger. “This is simply unreasonable! I’m so angry! You’ve wasted all these years studying and acquiring knowledge.”
Bai Lixin intervened, “Enough, Xia Chi. There’s no need to argue with them.”
“It’s not necessarily that the more knowledge you acquire, the better your conduct becomes. Conduct and ability are not directly proportional. In history, there have been extremely knowledgeable yet extremely cruel individuals. Even if you shout until your throat is hoarse, it won’t make them listen. Arrogance and prejudice have long been rooted in their hearts. Deep-seated, stubborn thoughts won’t change because of a few words from you. There’s no need to waste words on them.”
Xia Chi gritted his teeth: “Okay, brother.”
Bai Lixin stepped forward, and the monsters immediately burst into laughter. “Hahaha, what, someone who hasn’t been to school for a few days and doesn’t even recognize words, wants to lecture us?”
The young man raised an eyebrow. “Not quite, it’s just that I originally had good news to share with you.”
Dr. Camila: “What good news?! Is it about breaking the merfolk curse?!”
“As expected of Dr. Camila, you’re quite sharp.” Bai Lixin took out the necklace from his collar and waved it at the monsters. “Do you know what this is? This is the tool I found to break the curse. I was originally going to help you lift the curse, but seeing how fearless you are, I feel that my actions would be a disgrace to your noble integrity.”
“I was abrupt. Thanks to you all for your outstanding contributions to the development of human civilization.”
“I have already lifted the curses from the researchers in the laboratory above. Don’t worry, though you may have died, your spirits will be immortal. We will continue to replicate, experiment, and apply your research achievements, and strive to successfully develop them. Once we succeed, we’ll bring them to greater prominence.”
“At that time, we will stand in front of the world. But don’t worry, we will include your names to comfort your spirits in the afterlife. Please bless us from the heavens after your passing.”
The heads stuck together looked at each other, making rustling sounds.
“He said he has a tool to lift the curse.”
“Is it true? Is he deceiving us? After all, he’s just a janitor.”
“But he’s quite powerful, the janitor role might be just a cover.”
“What did he say just now? That the people in the lab above had their curses lifted? Those beneath us had their curses lifted, why should we endure the curse? They are just a group of non-core personnel, and we are the main force in this experiment! They want to take over our labor achievements after we die?!”
“They even want to stand in front of the world?! Take credit for our achievements? Damn it, despicable! We are the heroes, why should those useless fools replace us? I refuse to accept it, I refuse!”
“Exactly, I refuse! Why should capable individuals die early? I want to live, I want to live!”
“That’s my accomplishment, why should it be given to others?! If that’s the case, I’d rather see these achievements destroyed with me!”
“Yes, even if it’s all destroyed! I won’t let those useless fools benefit!”
Xia Chi silently glanced at Bai Lixin, and saw Bai Lixin smiling at him.
“…”
‘Too good, really too good.
Brother, did you study psychology before? In just a few sentences, you’ve exposed their hypocritical faces.’
Weren’t they righteously claiming everything was for the progress of humanity? Now, upon hearing that someone else might take over their experimental results, they want to destroy all research data.’
In short, they were not motivated by a pure scientific spirit, they just wanted to use this experiment to become famous and be praised by everyone.
The heads on the monster argued, and suddenly a roar came out of one head, “Stop arguing!”
It was Dr. Camila who shouted.
Dr. Camila stared at Bai Lixin, “You claim you can lift the curse, then show me the evidence.”
Bai Lixin looked proud, “Evidence? Simple. Xia Chi, show them your back!”
Without hesitation, Xia Chi mimicked Bai Lixin’s expression, showing a smug face, “You people, how dare you question my brother? Take a look at the curse that was on my back!”
With that, Xia Chi grabbed the hem of his hoodie and lifted it to the collarbone, exposing a clean and curse-free back to the monster.
“My back was originally filled with the curse, but my brother used the Mermaid Heart to lift it. You wanted evidence? I am the most compelling evidence!”
Gasps came out from the heads on the monster.
Amidst the series of exclamations, Xia Chi lowered his clothes, “Shouldn’t you believe my brother’s words now?”
Dr. Camila’s voice softened noticeably, “You said you could save us. Is it true?”
Bai Lixin smiled confidently, “Of course.”
Dr. Olay: “Bai Lixin, I always knew you were a good person. That’s why I entrusted you with such an important task and gave you so much money. Since you have the ability to lift the curse, why hesitate? Quickly lift it for us. If I can regain my human form, I will reward you heavily. You like money, don’t you? I’ll give you money, a lot of money.”
The young man looked hesitant, “But, is a humble person like me worthy to save you? Won’t it tarnish your reputations?”
“How could that be?” Another head spoke anxiously, “I’m not a person of noble character, I’m just an ordinary person. Since you’ve already saved those on the ground, saving one more won’t make a difference.”
“That’s right,” another head chimed in, “Your name is Bai Lixin, right? I’ve actually noticed you for a while. You’re a young man who combines beauty, intelligence, and kindness. If I can recover, I’d like to extend an Invitation to you. When our experiment succeeds, your name will appear on the list of researchers, and the whole world will know the name ‘Bai Lixin.’ Even a hundred, two hundred, five hundred years, or even a thousand years later, your name will still be remembered. Aren’t you moved?”
Bai Lixin: “I’m really moved by what you said.”
“Actions speak louder than words, young man. Quickly use the necklace in your hand to help me lift the curse.”
Xia Chi was dumbfounded.
For a moment, he seemed to have entered some kind of extravagant cult.
This flattery is top-notch, truly eye-opening.

In the live broadcast room.
[Haha, is the boss of this copy here to be funny?]
[A second ago: I’m awesome, I’m invincible, I look down on everyone, I am the hero!]
[The next second: God Xin is amazing, God Xin is as beautiful as a flower, God Xin is kind-hearted, God Xin is the true god!]
[The face-slapping came too fast.]
[Are you sure they are not making a comedy movie, isn’t it?]
[Other people’s bosses: Cruel, strong, and bloodthirsty.]
[God Xin’s boss: Flattery online, meek and helpless.]
[These so-called highly educated talents are really nauseating and extremely hypocritical. They say it’s for humanity, but it’s actually for their own reputation. They claim it’s for all humanity, but even if they really succeed in developing it, is merfolk blood affordable for ordinary people? In the end, it’s just a life-extending medicine for the rich, making the common people even more miserable. Money can prolong life, but when human lives are divided into classes, it’s the saddest time.]
[Listening to their words, there’s an inherent sense of superiority and disdain for the lower class. I’m afraid when they say ‘all humanity,’ they mean the ‘upper-class society’ of ‘humans.’]
[Exactly, if it’s genuinely for all humanity, then they should radiate downward and research affordable drugs for ordinary people. They are just using ‘all humanity’ as a shield, finding a grand excuse for their own desires. I really thank them on behalf of ‘all humanity.’]
]It is recommended not to save any of these people who are rotten to the core!]
